01 Why push boundaries?

The simple answer is - to overcome the disabilities caused by stroke and recover one’s former life, as far as is possible. This is an active procedure, based on a plan of work specifically designed for the disabilities in question. Recovery from a severe stroke is most unlikely to occur spontaneously, by just waiting for it to happen.
Recovery from an illness may well follow an appropriate time in bed and some medicine. But stroke is not an illness, it is an injury. If recovery is the aim, then a programme of treatment needs to be planned, physical and/or cognitive, dependent on the disabilities needing treatment. How this was done for Rita is described in detail in Pushing the Boundaries.
